Hey! Welcome to Grassrootsy!  My name is Joy and I’m an independent artist based out of Pittsburgh, PA. I don’t claim to know how to make you famous…because I’m not.  I also don’t promise that everything I write in this blog will directly pertain to you and your music.  But I am passionate about music and promotions and I hope to pass on some simple things I have learned in the past few years about getting your name out to your fans and potential media. If you’d like to check out my music and other websites, please check out the above links.  Thanks ya’ll!

p.s. If you run into grammatical or spelling errors on this site, please let me know.  Maintaining this site is important to me but is unfortunately very hard to do while also pursuing my own music. Thanks!

Formal description of Grassrootsy…

Grassrootsy is a music marketing blog specifically created for independent artists and bands. Indie artists often lack the know-how to successfully build a following, target potential fans, and creatively make a living off of what they do.  Pursuing music has very little to do with playing a gig. It has everything to do with what you do offstage after you’ve made the initial impression. Grassrootsy offers simple, practical, effective ways to promote yourself and your music. Learn the importance of networking, publicity, consistency, and creating web presence.  New posts every Monday and Wednesday.

  1. Hello Joy:

I think it is fantastic that you have set this site up to help fellow artists. We will pass the word about it. You are becoming a Mentor.

  4. Hey Joy!! This is Marc Schneider. I think we already talked about remembering each other from Gdub. I love this blog and find it’s knowledge absolutely priceless and inspiring for independent artists. I wanted to know if you have listened to my band The Incline yet. We are about to release our first full length album and would love to get you, and Grassrootsy a copy. Hope all is well and we are looking forward to hearing back from you. Thanks!

  5. Hey Joy!

I found an article I thought you might really enjoy and might want to blog about. Three artists developed an idea to put together a tour called The Vespa Experiment, a California tour featuring singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, and musicians Brendan James and Amber Rubarth. The two-week tour of the California coastline is intended to raise awareness about global warming. For the tour, the three will ride Vespas up the California coast. They will eschew hotels for campgrounds.

Great idea for artists trying to raise awareness, get mega sponsorship, and gain new fans!

Your posts are very long. Why don’t you just post a small one everyday like the marketing guru Seth Godin (sethgodin.typepad.com). It would make your material more manageable. Love the content though!

    Thanks Jeru!
That is such a great idea. I have considered doing that and prob will start in the new year. But I always wanna cover all corners of a topic so people know they can go to one specific blog to get all their answers …which results in a long post. Will probably opt for shorter posts in the new year.
    Thanks,
    -Grassrootsy
